Micro-CT data offers a non-destructive approach to quantify pore size distribution in bulk samples such as concrete, though this usually involves time consuming scans and complex analysis procedures. Many of these involve custom software or programming procedures.
We develop tailored algorithms to extract quantitative porosity analysis from imaging data. Our method is based on the segmentation and labelling of individual pores in 3D, so that the full distribution of pore volume versus pore number (histogram) can be derived from the data. This constitutes a step forward compared to the traditional porosity estimation based on integrated pore volume, providing you with the complete volume distribution that can be used to inform material preparation and processing steps.
The tutorials on extraction of the quantitative porosity distribution from volumetric data of porous samples can be found here.
